"Nature is Powerful" Photography Competition

25/9/2023

Check out the amazing photographs taken by some of the boys and girls. We wish to thank the judge, Aggie who found it very difficult to choose a winner. Check out her feedback below:

There were some great photographs for the “Nature is Powerful” photo competition.
The photographs show great variety, imagination, and some clever ideas, along with showing the beautiful landscapes, animals, life and history of Mayo and the West of Ireland.
Every photo brought its own story, making picking a winner challenging. From animals in a wild landscape, the power of water meeting the shore, huge, glaciated landscapes to the power of nature and its challenge to manmade structures were all nicely and interestingly interpreted in the photographs.
The winning entry is the Killary Harbour/fjord picture, which as a photograph is lined up excellently and shows the scale and power of former Ice carving and shaping the coastline and the influence of the sea as it meets the land.

Big congrats to Daniel who won a SONY camera for his famous winning photograph!

Yesterday the pupils in the middle room walked to Clapper Bridge for a reading session.
We couldn't think of a better place to finish off our novel "Under the Hawthorn Tree" by Marita Conlon-McKenna.
Clapper Bridge is soaked in history dating right back to the famine.
Everyone really enjoyed this novel. Some have already ordered the sequel to read over the summer!
