Boards of management are responsible for the direct governance of schools.

The duties of the board of management include the following:

• the appointment of teachers and ancillary staff

• approving school closures

• approving teacher absences for a variety of reasons

• the appointment of teachers to deputy-principalship and other posts of responsibility

• ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and ensuring that schools are adequately insured and maintained.

The West Mayo / Maigh Eo Thiar Scór competition took place in Kilmeena yesterday evening and our school was very well represented by Áine Conneely, Ellen Dyar, Jasmine O'Malley and Róisín Keating.

Comhghairdeas mór do Jasmine who WON the solo singing category and now proceeds to Scór na bPáistí County Final on Saturday 8th March.

Very well done to Áine in the sean-nós dancing category and also to Ellen, Rósín, Áine and Jasmine in the instrumental category which was of a very high standard. There is no shortage of exceptional talent here in West Mayo in music, song and dance.

Míle buíochas to the parents of the children for getting them together to practise. Warm thanks to Christina and past pupil Seamie for their musical arrangements and tuition.
