Well done to our hardy adventurers in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th who climbed Killadoon Hill on September 4th. It was windy and wild and that only added to the adventure.

🎓☀️ Sixth Class Graduation Day ☀️🎓
Lá deas a bhí againn inniu as we celebrated the graduation of our Sixth Class pupils in the beautiful sunshine. It was a special occasion as we said goodbye (for now!) to Martin, Ellen, James, Luke, Róisín, Clíona, Kevin, Kayla, Liliana, Áine and Jamie. We will miss seeing their friendly faces around the school. One of the highlights of the day was their version of the song Killeagh. The children put their own twist on it by writing a new verse all about our school! Have a listen on the link above. As the final line of the song goes; they are off to follow their dreams.......Go n-éirí leo. Following on from a very busy Active Schools week last week, the children had great fun today at our annual Sports Day. After fiercely contested welly throws, three legged, wheel barrow, Teddy bear and sprint races the top two teams had to compete at tug of war for a winner to be decided. Well done all.Hard luck to our boys in McHale Park today who were beaten by a physically stronger and taller Irishtown NS team. The boys showed superb character, fighting hard to the final whistle. Míle buíochas to the boys' parents, to the supporters who travelled to Castlebar and to Christina, Lisa and James for helping out on the sideline again today. A very special thank you to past pupil and previous Cumann na mBunscol county final winner Austin O'Malley (Crevan's uncle!) who kindly sponsored "the feed" after the game in McDonalds. Despite the loss, the boys had a great day out and made solid memories to last a lifetime.    Comhghairdeas mór to our boys who won their Cumann na mBunscol semi-final in Castlebar today!
They played a strong Ballycastle team and were four points down at half time, but the boys showed great determination in the second half and came back superbly to win by seven points. They now go on to the County Final on June 2nd — a fantastic achievement for our small school. Míle buíochas to the parents who helped by driving the team to Castlebar today. Your support is always appreciated.  Well done to our singers, dancers and musicians who performed in last night's Mol an Óige concert. Mol an Óige means "praise the youth" and míle buíochas to the Féile Chois Cuain committee who always give the local youth their chance on stage.
It's great to see such strong numbers from our small school and always lovely to see the children's relaxed, confident style of singing, dancing and playing. Well done to all involved.  Our school was lucky enough to be invited to a spectacular event with special guest Sonia O'Sullivan at Westport Athletics Club today.
'Killeen Road Runners' enjoyed a fantastic day out! A sincere thank you to Westport Athletics Club for hosting such a great Dare to Believe event, and to Sonia for inspiring us, running with us and answering all our questions. Dream big! Well done to our boys soccer team who represented West Mayo at the County finals today in Milebush Park, Castlebar. The boys played four games, drawing two and losing two, each by only a single goal. Once again the boys did themselves, their school and their families very proud. Special thanks to Lisa and Christina who very kindly gave up their time to bring the boys to Castlebar today.  The entire school was put through their paces today thanks to a brilliant circuit class run by Sharon McNamara. The kids really enjoyed competing against each other in lots of fun strength-based games.  The Killeen Road Runners got off to a flying start Big Style today. Well done to the Green group. The Red group will be hitting the road in the next 2 weeks.

The West Mayo / Maigh Eo Thiar Scór competition took place in Kilmeena yesterday evening and our school was very well represented by Áine Conneely, Ellen Dyar, Jasmine O'Malley and Róisín Keating.
Comhghairdeas mór do Jasmine who WON the solo singing category and now proceeds to Scór na bPáistí County Final on Saturday 8th March. Very well done to Áine in the sean-nós dancing category and also to Ellen, Rósín, Áine and Jasmine in the instrumental category which was of a very high standard. There is no shortage of exceptional talent here in West Mayo in music, song and dance. Míle buíochas to the parents of the children for getting them together to practise. Warm thanks to Christina and past pupil Seamie for their musical arrangements and tuition. Go n-éirí le Jasmine sa county final! |
