Seachtain na Gaeilge

Bhí an-spraoi againn an seachtain seo!
We had great fun today at school for Seachtain na Gaeilge.

Rinne an Junior Room seó beag dúinn leis an Hocaí Pocaí. Ba é an Hocaí Pocaí is fearr a bhí ann riamh!
That was the best Hocaí Pocaí we ever saw before from the Junior Room and they were very kind and helpful to teach it to the older children and the staff. An-craic.

Ansin, tháinig na páistí níos sine ar an stáitse leis an Haka Gaelach.
Then it was time for the older children to do the Haka Gaelach for us.

There was plenty of stomping and clapping and fierce faces. Beagánín scanrúil freisin!

Fantastic Football at FAI tournament: Buachaillí

Well done to both of our boy's teams who competed in the West Mayo Section of the FAI 5-a-side soccer competition in United Park, Westport.

Team 2 acquitted themselves brilliantly against very tough opposition, while Team 1 went on to win the competition and will now progress to the County finals in April.

The boys were a credit to themselves, their school and their families today. Well done all.

Fantastic Football at FAI tournament: Cailíní

Huge congrats to our FAI 5-a-side girls team who were outstanding in Westport.

The girls won all 4 of their group games and progressed to a semi final v Mulranny. The reward for winning this game was a place in the final v an exceptional Lankill team, who went on to win despite a valiant effort from our girls.

Well done girls and best of luck to Lankill in the County Finals.

Reading Buddies On World Book Day

World Book Day 2026 was marked in the school on by all of the children coming together to do some buddy reading of their favourite books. The younger children enjoyed being read to by the older children, and of course, the younger children enjoyed showing off their superb reading skills too.

We are very proud of our talented students who represented us so splendidly at the Scór na bPáistí competition.

👏 Huge congratulations to Tommy, who has made it through to the County Final with his wonderful recitation of “The Back of the Net”.

🎶 Martin did a superb job in the Solo Singing category with a magical performance of “Song for Ireland.”

💃 Joe stepped it out naturally and effortlessly in the Sean-nós dancing category.

🎻 In the Grúpa Cheoil category, Ellen, Áine, Róisín, Daniel and Martin performed “An Ceannabhán Bhána” and “Eleanor Plunkett” so well- beautiful to listen to.

⭐ Every child who takes to that stage and delivers performances like these is a winner.

Míle buíochas to CLG Mhaigh Eo for organising the competition and sincere thanks to Ballintubber GAA for hosting the event.

National Win for Liliana

We are delighted to congratulate 6th class student Liliana Austin on being awarded National Winner in the Green Schools Marine Spatial Planning Poster competition “Every Sea Tells A Story”.

Winning at national level is something to be very proud of. This is a superb achievement and a great recognition of Liliana’s creativity and effort.

Liliana has won €200 for herself and a further €500 for the school, along with a trophy and her winning poster framed.

Scór na bPáistí

ÁDH-MÓR to the pupils taking to the stage this evening in Carnacon at the Maigh Eo Thiar Scór na bPáistí competition.

Martin, Joe, Tommie, Ellen, Róisín K, Áine and Daniel are entering various categories: amhránaíocht (solo-singing), grúpa ceoil (music group), scéalaíocht (recitation) and damhsa ar an sean-nós (sean-nós dancing).

Míle buíochas to parent Christina and past pupil Séamie for tutoring the grúpa cheoil.

We wish them the very best of luck and an enjoyable evening.

Credit Union Quiz

Bualadh bos to our QUIZ WHIZZES Ellen, Áine, Luke, Daniel, Conan, Senan, Charlie and Róisín who represented our school spendidly in Knockranny last Friday evening.

It was a tough quiz with lots of head-scratching questions and our A and B teams did a mighty job.

Best of luck to the teams going forward to the next round. Go n-éirí libh.

Crosóg Bhríde

Busy hands, rushes everywhere and great teamwork today as all four classes came together to make St. Brigid's crosses.

We chatted about St. Brigid and how she used rushes to explain the Holy Trinity: The Father, Son and the Holy Spirit.

Colourful Clothes Day For Ava

Nach bhfuil na dathanna go deas geal!

The West Mayo / Maigh Eo Thiar Scór competition took place in Kilmeena yesterday evening and our school was very well represented by Áine Conneely, Ellen Dyar, Jasmine O'Malley and Róisín Keating.

Comhghairdeas mór do Jasmine who WON the solo singing category and now proceeds to Scór na bPáistí County Final on Saturday 8th March.

Very well done to Áine in the sean-nós dancing category and also to Ellen, Rósín, Áine and Jasmine in the instrumental category which was of a very high standard. There is no shortage of exceptional talent here in West Mayo in music, song and dance.

Míle buíochas to the parents of the children for getting them together to practise. Warm thanks to Christina and past pupil Seamie for their musical arrangements and tuition.
