This was messy business but boy did we enjoy it :-) We collected a variety of nest building material at home and on the school grounds. We needed to keep in mind that these nests needed to be strong to withstand the wind, have good drainage and be able to hold some eggs. We made the nest in groups of four. Some of us made two nests and used a different technique for each nest. We used a bowl as our base and left them to dry for a few days before removing them from the bowls. All nests turned out amazingly well and are now in a hedge outside. We are hoping they will provide some shelter for birds in all seasons. This was a great activity as well as a little science experiment!
The boys and girls learned about the life of the famous artist Vincent Van Gogh. Then they completed a step by step drawing inspired by Van Gogh's "Sunflowers". We couldn't decide whether to colour them in or not so we did both! Which do you prefer?
